ALEXANDRIA, VA. - If this year's Women's March draws the same kind of attendance it did during the inaugural march in 2017, Metro will be packed as participants come and go. For residents of Alexandria, there's an alternative.

The Potomac Riverboat Company will offer a $30 roundtrip water taxi to and from the Women's March Saturday, Jan. 20. Riders can depart Alexandria at either 8:30 a.m. or 10 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

They have a 25-minute, heated ride to the The Wharf, which is about a half-hour walk to the Women's March starting point at the Lincoln Memorial. The Potomac Riverboat Company has been offering service to the Wharf since October. Water taxis aside from the Women's March service have ceased for the winter season.

The 2018 Women's March will begin at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. After a lineup of speakers, participants will march to the White House at 1 p.m. The theme of the march is "Power to the Polls," launching a nationwide voter registration effort to have an impact on 2018 elections. The main event is in Las Vegas, but the DC march is likely to be one of the biggest.

The 2017 march drew hundreds of thousands to DC advocating for policies supporting women's rights and other issues and protesting President Trump. Check out some images from last year's event below.
