ALEXANDRIA, VA. -
Alexandria City Public Schools are back in session. More than 15,000 students started today at 13 elementary schools, one PreK–8 school, two middle schools and one high school.

The new ACPS Superintendent Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. made the rounds to each school to kick off the 2018-2019 school year. After he started in July, Hutchings outlined his 100-Day Entry Plan with specific goals and objectives, and last week issued a welcome to students and families.

The first day of school went fairly smoothly this morning across the school division. The buses were rolling in mostly on schedule. The teachers and administrators eagerly awaited the students who settled into their classrooms as the school day got underway.
