Nina Tisara, the project director and photographer of Living Legends of Alexandria is pleased to announce that it is now collaborating on the project with Local Kicks, an Alexandria-centric news and features web site based in Old Town.
"We are very excited to be taking Living Legends online and into our digital future," said Tisara. "Living Legends is an ongoing photodocumentary project to identify, honor and chronicle the people making history in Alexandria today. It makes perfect sense to take advantage of digital technology to tell the stories of our current Legends."
The non-profit project.now beginning it's third year, is unique among recognition programs in that the photographs and stories are donated to the Alexandria library where they are available for research and importantly, to inspire others.
"With photography going digital and online news sites like ours able to host dozens of photos with a story at one time, this was a natural fit," said John Arundel, the editor and co-publisher of Local Kicks. "We applaud Nina Tisara and the Alexandria Gazette Packet for getting such an important project off the ground and making it successful. Living Legends is truly an heirloom of our community."
Nomination forms for the Legends of 2010 are available at www.tisaraphoto.com/legends. "The nomination process is easy," said Tisara. "Simply state on one page why you consider the person a Legend."
Criteria are the creation of something new to improve the quality of life in Alexandria that would not exist without that person's vision and determination -- or exemplary service to the City of 10 years or more.
Nominees must live or work in Alexandria. Political candidates or current office holders are not eligible for this recognition or current city employees unless the contributions are outside their job responsibilities. The deadline for nominations is September 30.
"Living Legends of Alexandria - 2008-09" may be seen at the Lyceum, 201 S. Washington Street, through October 23.
