Kristina Robertson Selected By Virginia Tourism Board To Represent Virginia In New Ad Campaign

By Andrea Rodgers
Contributing Writer and Pet Aficionado

Kristina Robertson, owner of Barkley Square Gourmet Dog Bakery & Boutique in Alexandria, has been chosen to represent Alexandria in the Virginia Tourism Board’s “Portraits of Passion” series.  Kristina is one of seven Virginians selected to be the faces of the new “Portraits of Passion” series, which is the heart of the Virginia is for Lovers – Live Passionately marketing campaign.  This campaign is brand new and for the first time ever, Virginia tourism is featuring real people in their own words in our tourism marketing.

The true stories of Virginians passionate about history, music, wine, outdoor adventure and life bring new excitement to the Virginia is for Lovers slogan and position the state as an enriching travel destination. The Live Passionately campaign is designed to bring new meaning and new life to Virginia is for Lovers, which is the longest-running tourism slogan in the country, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2009.

“These portraits capture the essence of the Virginia travel experience,” stated Alisa Bailey, president and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation.

“These are real people who are so engaging that you want to know more about them instantly.  Their personal stories connect with visitors on an emotional level and offer a glimpse into what makes Virginia such a rewarding destination.”

Each Portrait represents one of Virginia’s unique travel passions that entice tourists to Virginia. Kristina represents Virginia’s wonderful main street destinations, historic downtowns such as Old Town Alexandria.  In addition, her ad positions Virginia as a pet-friendly travel destination.  Kristina was chosen for her overwhelming passion for historic downtown life and creative care for our four-legged friends.

In 1991, Kristina founded Karing By Kristina, one of the first pet sitting businesses in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area.   Since moving to Alexandria and taking on Barkley Square Bakery in 2004, Kristina has become an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, Alexandria City Visitors Association, The Del Ray Business Association and is a board member of the King Street Metro Enterprise Team, through which she works to enhance the pet friendly atmosphere of the community.
